Australian tenor Alasdair Kent is known for “his evenly produced tenor, refined technique and intense expressiveness,” (Opera News) a voice “of great clarity, and of beautiful projection,” (Opera Online) and for marrying “striking good looks with delicious sound.” (San Francisco Classical Voice) An internationally acclaimed interpreter of Rossini and Mozart, his high tenor repertoire also encompasses the Romantic music of Bellini, Donizetti and Bizet, as well as the Baroque and early Classical music of Rameau and Gluck. Recent engagements include performances with the Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro Real Madrid, the Bayerische Staatsoper, Opernhaus Zürich, Rossini Opera Festival and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
Kent’s 2024-25 season includes his house debut with the Teatro alla Scala and a return to the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in concert as Marzio (Mitridate, re di Ponto) with Christophe Rousset conducting Les Talens Lyriques. He has further performances as Narciso (Il turco in Italia) at the Opéra national de Lyon, Pylade (Iphigénie en Tauride) with the Teatro de la Maestranza, Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Opéra de Montréal and Norfolc (Elisabetta, regina d’Inghilterra) at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo. He returns to Theater an der Wien as Pleasure (The Triumph of Time and Truth) and makes an important role debut as Idreno (Semiramide) with Opéra de Rouen and with the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
Highlights from Kent’s past seasons include: Il Conte d’Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, The Dallas Opera; Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola) at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper am Rhein; Lindoro (L’italiana in Algieri) at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam; Ferrando (Così fan tutte) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie Luxembourg; Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at the Bayerische Staatsoper; Don Narciso (Il turco in Italia) at Opernhaus Zürich; title role in Haydn’s Orlando Paladino at Teatro Real Madrid & Gran Teatre del Liceu; Achille (Iphigénie en Aulide) at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence; Belfiore (Il viaggio a Reims) at Rossini Opera Festival; Arturo (I puritani) at Ópera de Oviedo; Ernesto (Don Pasquale) and Argirio (Tancredi) at the Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari; and other roles including Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Paolino (Il matrimonio segreto), and tenor soloist in Carmina Burana and Rossini’s Messa di Gloria in various theatres, including Opera Philadelphia, Teatro Regio di Torino, Opéra national de Montpellier, and Theater an der Wien.
An alumnus of the Academy of Vocal Arts, the Merola Opera Program and of young artist programs with Wolf Trap Opera and Opera Philadelphia, he has won numerous awards, including the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Foundation Bel Canto Award and the Marten Bequest.
